Tickets on sale starting THIS FRIDAY!
Greetings and salutations fellow Sparkers! (Yes. That's what I shall coin all of you. Hahaha! XD XD XD)
I shall bring forth a huge message to all of you from the powers that be running this wonderful show that will be staged from June 25th-27th at Auditorium DBKL!
Tickets for Sparks Of Broadway will officially be on sale starting THIS COMING FRIDAY! Yes, you read right! There will be a total of five shows, including the Charity Gala Night on June 25th and a pair of matinee and evening shows on both the 26th and 27th of June!
With only five shows, it's best that you better book your tickets as early as possible and two ways you can go about doing so is by logging on to www.ticket2u.biz and booking your tickets online or you can give the Ticket2u Hotline a call at 03-41498600 from nine am till six pm, Mondays to Fridays.
Ten years ago, Farah Dato' Seri Sulaiman began a series of memorable theater productions starting with Dance Hysteria. A decade later, she would return to Auditorium DBKL after staging three previous productions at that very venue with her epic seventh stage production, Sparks Of Broadway! You don't wanna miss out on an evening (and afternoon) of an amazing and diversified mix of singing, acting and dancing featuring some of the brightest young talents Malaysia has to offer and seasoned regulars in the performing arts industry!

Story Behind the Logo
When I first gotten the creative brief from Ms Farah, Sabrina and the committee, here are some keywords that I've picked up about the show:
musical • showtunes broadway • fun • energetic • elegant • vibrant • glitz n' glam • sparkle • Ms Farah would also like the word Sparks to be in cursive, flowy and elegant, sort of like a handwritten calligraphy.
Keywords are tremendously helpful for designers to kick start a project, or to have something to ponder about on the way back to work (even though it's not recommended if you're driving).
With those keywords in mind, I started googling and downloaded a series of pictures that match (or closely match) those keywords; pull all the images together to form a mood board. I enjoy this part of the exercise especially when I don't have a luxury of working with a creative team to have a brainstorming session saturated with caffeine (and nicotine).
A mood board is a collage of materials that designers put together to get an initial idea of the creative approach - color, font, texture, effects and et cetera. Often enough great ideas come from mixing, matching, marrying or fusing one element to another. Fashion designers do it, interior designers do it, architects do it. Hence this is the mood board for Sparks of Broadway:
Now start with the drawing board: I've picked up some nice elements from the materials I've gathered from the mood board which I think could answer the brief so I decided to use marquee to answer showtunes and rhinestones to answer sparkle (lots and lots them).
After that I proceed to scan and trace the sketches in Adobe Illustrator.
Play with different font & color... that eventually will create a hybrid of logo options.
So I showed Ms Farah, Sabrina and the committee a few options of the logo. Eventually they've decided to go for the swivel handwriting option. Also I gotten feedback that the letter 'S' and 'p' was a bit hard to read. So I brought it back and relook at the design: to redesign the letter 'S', lengthen the descender of the letter 'p'. It's now cleaner and easier to see the word Sparks. Then, someone pointed out the tail end that shoots out from the letter 's' looks like a *******
O.o"
Back to illustrator, I've churned up a whole series of tail ends. Some work, some okay and some are just trying too hard so I decided to just use the previous one but trimming off the edge.
Finally, the ladies were excited about the logo.
So I proceed to adapt it onto the T-shirts, which eventually be worn by the production team, crew and performers. Each T-shirt is unique in a way that individual name will be printed at the back.
Phase one done. Now it's time to spice things up to further dress up the logo, sort of like how Ms Farah dresses up her work folder... you get the idea *wink*.
I imported the artwork into Adobe Photoshop:
Add on the rhinestones and sequins...
Next, mount the precious stones on a metallic base...
Finally add on the bling bling and voila.
I wish I could cast the logo into a pendent and wear it in a gold chain. Yo yo, in ya' face Missy.

Final Rehearsals in March 2010
We are very thankful to the National Arts Academy for providing the space for our weekly rehearsals in their dance studio. A proper rehearsal place does help the performers in their overall outlook and to visually adjust their blockings.
Saturdays are usually for Act 1 and Sundays are for Act 2 run through. It is going to be alot of hardwork for the performers to live up to the beautiful dance choreography of Farah Sulaiman and the creative artistic direction from Sabrina Hassan.
If you have followed Farah & Sabrina's production since Jalan Impian and Broadway Babies, you will definitely notice how the Junior Sayang Dancers have matured through the years combining their passion and the nurtured skills that they have acquired these years. We are very proud of them and these are the people that will definitely bring up the level of performing arts in Malaysia to another level.
Tune in for more information about the ticket sales. In the meantime, do block 25-27 June 2010 for us!
